we are very honored today that tom perez has come from washington, dc, to give welcoming remarks here at this summit. tom perez is the assistant attorney general of the civil rights division in washington, dc, he was nominated for that position by president obama and sworn in in october of 2009 and we are all the lucky -- we are all very lucky that that happened in october of 2009. tom has spent his entire career in public service and on protecting the civil rights of our most vulnerable people. tom actually joined the civil rights division as a young lawyer and while he was there he prosecuted some of the most significant cases in the country. lawyers in the civil rights division get fanned out to places in the country to handle cases in mississippi and alabama and california and all over and tom was one of those people. he was sent to texas to handle a very significant hate crime case when he was a young lawyer that involved a gang of white supremacists that went on a killing spree and ended up shooting 3 people and killing one when he was a young lawyer working in the civil rights

tanks the in washington d.c. like many other cities you can't always get a cab when and where you need one but when you do catch a taxi and meet its driver and my name is not. always right you know it's almost for you. like nasser he or she can offer up a reason when and why cabs become scarce of them you know. when you're driving cabs to the dad to this. i'd say. too dangerous unsafe and on top of that the business is controlled by a commission that decides everything from how many cabs are on the road to where they can pick up to what they can charge the mid think is fair. because the price is going to go out but if it is the same thing and making it difficult to rack up those fares and serve customers are the cabs and city limits. so we just arrived at reagan airport which is right outside of washington d.c. and nasr our cab driver was nice enough to drop us off here only he can't get a return fare back he has to leave and go all the way back to d.c. without anybody in his cab simply because of the regulations

we're waiting for news out of washington. that's going to be a catalyst. typically we see light volumes, we don't see a ton of trading. what do you expect the action to be while we're waiting for this decision? do you expect anything out of the ordinary this year? >> no, i don't. i think we'll see light volumes again, too. i think we're going over the fiscal cliff. but what i think is, the market has grown accustomed to that. small caps are up 9.5% since mid-november. that's optimistic in my mind. what i think they think is that we go over the fiscal cliff and sometime in the first week and a half, that's the political theater where the republicans can then cut taxes instead of raising taxes on anyone. and all will be well. i do think, however, the one thing that i'm worried about is the markets are okay with that, and they -- in our business we say buy the room or sell the facts. they price in this good outcome that happens the first week of january. then there's no reason left to buy. we priced that in and go lower. i did establish shorts on christmas ev

you get off at powell between washington, you don't know where chinatown is. okay. so, in the interest of making the quality of life and transportation in san francisco better, it seems like we need to slow down, february 1st is not going to work, and rethink this thing. and in the beginning when we had the emergencies, these day or two and i give all the employees credit, the word used was "cost-effective." so, the gentleman who did the work to fix the breakdown is we need to build that kind of city at the street level or whatever level where we don't have more pedestrian transit accidents. so, there seems to be some design flaws. i drive fourth and bryant because my husband works by the caltrain station. well, that's the beginning of it, but i don't see the logical connection, how you get on the subway. and then from chinatown i want to speak to the hardships of the businesses because i tried helping louie's restaurant. they went out of business, four years of construction from the chinatown campus of community college. so, cost-effective, it's going to be this mu
